a dream of passion

incorporate in rome | a mix for tamora, volumnia, lady macbeth, and cleopatra* [requested by axonsandsynapses]

listen or download

*note: this mix is based on my undergrad english thesis, which explores these shakespearean women in terms of the physical language of rule (the concept of the king’s two bodies) and the ways in which they enact their politics on and through their bodies. not all the songs are perfectly applicable to all of them—as a whole it’s probably most cohesive for tamora—but it ranges through many of my topics: manipulative lovers, calculating wives, murderous mothers, ruthless queens, the shaming and stimatization of female bodies, and these women’s attempts to transcend and transform their own physicality in order to become viable political figures.
I’ll find a day to massacre them allAnd raze their faction and their family,The cruel father and his traitorous sons,To whom I sued for my dear son’s life,And make them know what ‘tis to let a queenKneel in the streets and beg for grace in vain.

And raze their faction and their family,
The cruel father and his traitorous sons,
To whom I sued for my dear son’s life,
And make them know what ‘tis to let a queen
